In 1995 the 216th did a series of projects in England and Germany. I'm sure most of you remember the big cable project at Kapaun. In addition to the Kapaun cable project, a radio/antenna team installed a TRC 180 radio and associated antenna at Mildenhall. This is the project where the rabbits ate the ground plane on our antenna! The antenna team (Vavrock, Walker and Bachigalupi) installed the antenna one day and the next day when we came to work the ground plane was chewed to pieces. We had to get some 3 foot stakes made and raise the ground plane wires 3 feet off the ground to keep the rabbits from eating it. Another interesting tidbit on this project was when Eileen accidentally flushed her ID card down the toilet at Heathrow when we were leaving. She had an interesting time trying to get on a plane with no ID card and no passport. Maybe she will tell this story at the next reunion. Part of the radio team that did the Mildenhall project flew on to Germany to assist on three METNAV projects at Ramstein and Sembach, then joined the cable teams on the Kapaun project. Irv Clark and I were part of this team. This was the last project I did with Irv. Great Guy.
Below are a couple of pictures from the Mildenhall project and on the KC-135 heading home from Germany.
